Herbie Foltz

Herbie is named after my Dad's uncle Herbert Miller. Herb's sister Lottie was Herbie's grandmother and resided on the farm Herbie has lived on all of his life. Herbie had five sisters and he is the youngest. Herb was the first one that I knew of to use one word for most politicians in the Kankakee area "REPUBLICAN-SON-OF-A-BITCH". His Dad and brothers were Republicans but he and my Dad were Democrats. He was of the funniest guys I ever knew. When his first wife died his daughter had to get on him at her wake because he was so noisey and loud. He always had a joke  to make you laugh, surprise you and sometimes shock you. Family lore is he once shot up his TV when a Republican was "lying" on it.  There was a little of him in my Dad and Dad's cousin, Buck Foltz. I found it always exciting to go to his little house ( the house had been his father's house). His father was Louis Miller and his mother was Mary, a very small lady crippled by arthritis and in a wheelchair in her last years, dying in 1926. They are buried in the NE corner of Limestone Cemetery while Uncle Herb lays in the SW part.  Uncle Welty Arnold and his family lay in the west side.
