  1. That was a real nice visit...I hadn't seen most of the relatives on my Mother's side ever, even though I only lived outside of Herscher the Schmidts that raised me did not commingle with the Arnold family...Or the McVeys...Aunt Lucille was a wonderful hostess, with a great sense of humor...I sure do appreciate her reintroducing me to my Mom. 2. To add to Mike's comments, Mike might have a better recollection of our initial "reintroduction" to Gertrude. Someone, probably Lucille came up and asked me if it would be okay for Mom to come in (she was living in Peoria and one of the sisters told her I was in town and staying with Tom and LIna)
I really did not have any problem but it must have been very difficult for her, she had a very difficult life and the four boys were a hand full. there are times when I look back on my life and realize what great timing I had. Helene and Bill could not have children, helen brought me in and they adopted me and then they left Kankakee right after school ended for the year. A month one way or the other and I would have grown up in an institution. always thought the best thing that happened to the four boys was the break up of the family but I am sure Gertrude felt guilty over that and I remember telling her that what happened was for best. Hoped it did some good.
