  1. remember this summer with great fondness, graduated, was on my way to the Air Force when summer ended. Before Kankakee I went to Traverse City Michigan with Jack Story who I knew since I was ten. With Jim Zirkelbach we drove from California to Indiana, Jim hitchhiked to New York City and spent the summer with his uncle. Jack and I went to his fathers place and painted houses. Then I hitchhiked down to Kankakee, Helen picked me up from the train station and I stayed with Tom and LIna for about a month. wonderful times

  2. 2nd installment. I went back to see Mike, Pat and Rick. Helen picked up me at the train station (where I slept at the age of eight to avoid Seth) and was glad to see Tom and Lina and Mardene. Spent about a month at the farm, two weeks in Peoria and then went home to go into the service. I think when I came back everyone had a chance to get together and I had a good time. Whatever apprehension anyone felt about the boys being split up did not concern me and I told Gertrude there was nothing to apologize about.
