Men in a Sunday Picture

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! On 20 July 1917 LaVerne Henry Louis Miller was born. Spellcheck says LaVern (no e) and a lot of his papers had it both ways but it was with an e for him. Henry was his maternal grandfather’s name and Louis his paternal grandfather’s name. This picture represented a typical Sunday get-together. Only the men and one boy were included because, as Mom would say “That was just the way things were back then”. Both of Mom’s brothers, Welty on the left next to Dad, and Berle in the front, then my Uncle Sherwood Thorson,( married Edith), Grandpa Arnold and Mom’s Uncle Tom Arthur on the right. Our social life was often Sunday at Grandpa’s, where you shared a big meal and time with the ever-growing family, celebrated births/birthdays and such, played ball and had fun outside. I had many cousins near my age and we all grew up together on these Sundays. I estimate this picture was taken in 1938.
