  2. someone told me that the orginal plan was that I was supposed to go with Sarah but Bill and Helene were introduced to me by Helen. Helen worked in Helene's doctor officc and when they found out Helene could not hsve any more children Helen knew this kid.

  3. to add to the story, Mike, Pat and Rick (a baby) went to relatives. Helen (lina's daughter)worked for Helene's doctor. Helene could not have children and at the time I was a ward of the court because I had been found by the police sleeping in the railroad station which I believe was across from the Alamo Hotel where I was supposed to be staying with Seth. I was about 7 or 8 and would not live with Seth I ran away all the time. So, Helen tells helene she knows this kid and Bill and Helene came out to Tom and Lina's to meet me (then Helen was living upstairs at the Arthur farm). So I am adopted and 3 or 4 months later we leave Kankakee for California. 1955. Remarkable timing.

  4. mike has trouble as a child because he was afraid that Seth and Gertrude would try to take him back. I was adopted by the Lynch family but while we were still in Kankakee the local priest came over to the house and said that he "was going to take Jim McVey back into the fold". Helene, who had a temper that could take paint off the wall, told him in no uncertain terms to get off the porch and when he raised his voice our dog bit him. Wonderful times. Anyway Bill's lawyer called the sheriff and the sheriff told
the priest to knock it off. I am sure that the four of us had issues (as they say now) dealing with all this but I knew at the tender age of 9 that I had just escaped a train wreck. jim lynch

  5. hopefully the last time I will deal with this issue. In the past several people (including Gertrude) have expressed to me the feeling that somehow the brothers were dealt with badly. Nothing could be further from the truth. I told Gertrude in Peoria in August 1963 that there was nothing to apologize
about. Like I said before I knew at the age of 9 that we had just escaped a
    train wreck. jim lynch
